A SHORT HORROR STORY

IN OUR BLOOD “Will you please stop laughing?” I asked Frances in an exasperated tone. “Why would I do that?” Frances said with her eyes still fixed on her laptop. “Because I’m watching the news,” I said. “And the news is about the devastation brought by that typhoon. A ship sank and more than a thousand people are now feared dead, a bridge collapsed killing ten people and a flashflood killed hundreds of people. “What do you want me to do? Weep and slash my wrist?” “You can at least be silent while the news is going on.” She smirked. “Why would I be affected? I don’t know those people. You’d be better off ignoring them.” “Frances, every death mustn’t be ignored,” I told her. “Dapat tayong malungkot tuwing may mamamatay kahit hindi natin kilala.” “Then cry alone, ate.

WHAT THE F... IS GOING ON?

Narito ang mga pangyayaring iyon: 1-A BANANA PLANT WITH NINE HEARTS.

This blogsite’s favorite local actor, Mark Lapid, whose acting prowess probably rivals the intensity of Robert De Niro and Al Pacino and whose classic film, Apoy Sa Dibdib Ng Samar, is now being dissected and studied by film students like a dead, hapless frog, has been appointed by PGMA as the new general manager of Philippine Tourism Authority (PTA). Why Mark Lapid? the reporters asked Tourism head Ace Durano. Durano was only able to utter some mumbojumbo. Lapid’s appointment has been met with a lot of brickbats.

JOE MARI MONGCAL: REST IN PEACE

Image
I received an email (from Mr. Mario Macalindong) bearing the sad news that comics illustrator Mr. Joe Mari Mongcal had died. He met an accident in Baclaran yesterday (Saturday, June 7).

A MOVIE FOR THE GUILTY

I watched the DVD of Atonement last night and got my heart broken. My sister rented it after seeing that James McAvoy was the lead actor; she became an instant fan after watching The Last King Of Scotland . Atonement , a love story set during the World War II, was an achingly sad but hauntingly beautiful movie that would leave you teary-eyed at the ending. Superb direction, great acting, touching story (a wealthy 13-year old girl, an aspiring writer, ruined the relationship and the lives of her older sister and her boyfriend through her lies and spent her life trying to atone for that sin) and a wonderful musical score (which won an Oscar), this classy movie was nominated as best picture in this year's Oscars.
