A MOST WELCOME EMAIL

Image
I was pleasantly surprised to receive an e-mail from Edith Montelibano, wife of Jet Montelibano (of pinoy rockband Dinosaur). She said she had read my post about the Dinosaur here and that they still have vinyl and cassette copies of the Dinosaur album and that they have been thinking of having it re-mastered and re-issued. I hope it pushes through. If there's one pinoy album that truly deserves to be re-issued, it is this album. Edith and Jet Montelibano are in L.A., California right now. They took part in the recently held First Annual Fil-Am Visionary Awards which was held in prestigious Kodak Theatre (home of Hollywood's biggest events like American Idol) in Hollywood. Some of the honorees there were Robert Jaworski, Dolphy, Tito, Vic and Joey, Mike Enriquez, Manny Pacquiao and Rudy Fernandez.

VIDEOKE TIME

This senti and absolutely lovely and soothing song is "My Lady" by Dinosaur. Dinosaur, a pinoy rock band from the 80s, was composed of Boy Camara, Ed Formoso and Jet Montelibano. Unfortunately, this great band was able to release only one album, which title, if my memory was serving me right, was Tales of The Storyman. This album, believe you me, is one of the best OPM albums of all time. Some of the songs included in this album are "Try A Little Suicide", "Come Away With Me" and "My Lady." I even remember posting a message in one popular Internet forum saying that I'm willing to shell out a 'fabulous' sum to anyone who could provide me a (pirated) copy of this album. So accidentally stumbling upon this nice video was a manna from heaven. "Waiter, beer pa nga! Kumple...

I HAVE BECOME COMFORTABLY NUMB!

“Look at the lyrics, look at the title, listen to the melody, no doubt about it, it’s the ultimate drug addict’s song,” commented our friendly neighborhood addict who ran off with Darna’s bato. (See my last post re Dyesebel.) Many critics of Pink Floyd who used to attack them as a drug-crazed group have always used this song as a proof that members of Pink Floyd were drug addicts. And that they have encouraged lots of their fans to become drug addicts also through this song. Until now, a lot of rock music enthusiasts think that this song is about illegal drugs. They think that the song is about a man who overdosed on drugs and is being revived by a doctor. Members of Pink Floyd have always denied that they were drug users. The song (which is included in their double-CD album, The Wall ) is about Roger Water’s (the writer of the song) experience while the band was about to do a concert. He was not feeling well (...

WILL SOMEBODY GRAB DYESEBEL BY THE TAIL, DEEP-FRY HER AND EAT HER?

Marian Rivera is pretty, but of course. She’d probably be perfect for the role. Any man will surely be more than willing to be a siyokoy just to be with her. But I don’t know, the first time I heard that a new teleserye about Dyesebel was in the offing, my first reaction was “na naman?” Okay, Mars Ravelos’ works are very good. But do they have the right to overdose us with those characters?

THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL

Since I've tackled the topic of money on my last post, I might as well feature the song Money as my LSS. I listened to the Dark Side of the Moon early this morning and this is the song that up to this moment continues to spin inside my head. Money , one of the most popular songs from Pink Floyd, is the sixth track on bestselling Dark Side of the Moon LP and was written by Roger Waters. The words of the song are clear: the need for some people to have so much money. But then, like I said, who doesn't dream of having so much money? With so much money, you probably won't have difficulty asking Elisha Cuthbert for a date. Money by Pink Floyd Money, get away, get a good job with more pay and your O.K. Money it's a gas, grab that cash with both hands and make a stash New car, caviar, four star daydream, think I'll buy me a football team Money, get back, I'm all right Jack keep your hands off my stack Money, it's a hit, don't give me that do goody good b...

“I’M RICH NOW! I’M SO FRIGGIN RICH I’M GOING TO BUY A PRIVATE JET AND USE IT AS A PAPERWEIGHT!”

Few days ago, I received an e-mail telling me than I won 960, 000.00 euros (more or less 60 million pesos) in a lottery held in Spain. The letter said I won when my e-mail address was randomly selected. Suddenly, I'm rich! But of course, I ignored it. You have to be crazy to fall for that kind of scam. I excitedly clicked open another e-mail entitled Nude Angel Locsin Pictures , which also turned out to be a hoax. It really was a chain e-mail asking me to pray an incantation that came with the letter while hanging upside down from the ceiling then foreward it to my ten gorgeous, millionaire friends or else something terribly bad will happen to me. Like a certain Jun Lozada accusing me of extorting one hundred million dollars without any evidence backing up his claim except having nuns by his side and saying that ‘Nasa Panig Ko Ang Katotohanan!’ I’m willing to recite the incantation while hanging upside down but I don’t have millionaire friends to forward it to. All my friends are j...

A STORY IDEA

Image
"Where do you get all your story ideas?" someone asked me while I was slumped in front of my typewriter, typing a comics script. "Nah! It's not him who thinks of all those stories," another one butted in. "There's a creature inside his typewriter who supplies him with all the plots." We all laughed with that joke. The two left me and sat in front of TV when a sexy actress started gyrating in a skimpy two piece bikini. I resisted the temptation to join them. I have another story to create, something about a creature inside a writer's typewriter.

"Hey, This Song Has Built A House Inside My Head!"

If you'd notice, I'd put a little musical thingamajig somewhere on this blog and I called it Last Song Syndrome. Last Song Syndrome, of course, happens when a song you just heard refuses to leave your mind for hours or even for days. You sing it or hum it while working or while taking a bath or changing your baby's or your granddad's diaper or taking your dog for a walk or just bumming around. I listen to a lot of Pink Floyd songs so most often than not, it is a Pink Floyd song that will always swirl inside my head. But I also listen to other musicians. I'll try to dissect and write a small background of every song that I will feature in this blog. The Final Cut is one of my fave Pink Floyd songs. Very emotional, very depressing and has great vocals by Roger Waters , it is one of the songs from the album The Final Cut (an anti-war CD that was released in 1983), the last album where Roger Waters (Pink Floyd's main songwriter) took part in. After that album, Water...
