Dogs, A Mysterious Pink Floyd Instrumental And Leo Sayer

Image
So this tricycle passed by our house, blaring this Leo Sayer song, “When I Need You,” a song about masturbat—, er, pining over your love during a long-distance relationship, and I recalled again the cassette tape of   Pink Floyd’s Animals that I bought many years ago. In that tape, an instrumental would play right after the song “Dogs” (an awesome seventeen-minute long song about charming but greedy, ruthless and manipulative businessmen). The instrumental was not listed in the album, so I thought it was part of “Dogs,” sort of an outro. The instrumental had a lovely melody, and was not too trippy or psychedelic and thoroughly enjoyable. But as I learned later, it wasn’t part of “Dogs,” so it was most likely a bonus instrumental track.           And that instrumental will thoroughly remind you of “When I Need You.” They sound so similar  that they might as well be twins, the only difference is one’s an in...

Run To The Bedroom (In The Suitcase On The Left, You'll Find My Favorite Axe)

Image
I Liked so many Pink Floyd pages and groups in Facebook that there’ll be days when my News feed will show almost nothing but posts about Pink Floyd. Anyway, I saw a thread that asked, “Aside from 'Comfortably Numb,' what song is your favorite in the album The Wall ? The thread starter correctly assuming that everyone's favorite song in the album is '"Comfortably Numb." Almost every song in the album is fantastic but my favorite, aside from 'Comfortably Numb' is “One Of My Turns,” which is written and sang (emotively, of course) by Roger Waters.       In the song, Pink (the main character in the concept album/movie version, who is now a famous but emotionally-tortured, drug-addicted rock star), brings home a groupie, but he just then ignores her and her invitation for them to take a bath together. He instead watches TV while he contemplates on his disintegrating married life (his wife is che...

You Can Count On Me, Like 1, 2, 3 ( But Can I Count On You, Like 4, 3, 2?)

Image
I didn’t know this song ("Count On Me" by Bruno Mars) existed until I heard my almost three year old (34 months to be exact) precocious nephew singing it while playing some games on our tablet. Yes, singing, not just humming. His mother didn’t know who taught him the song. My take on it is, since he loves numbers and the alphabet and loves to search YouTube videos about them, he accidentally stumbled upon the exact video above and played it and liked it and sang along with it (he can already read). His rendition of the song was so spot on ( we loved how he crooned the “ooohh, ooohh, yeah! yeah!” part) that we ended up singing with him. We probably sang the song 37 times.        After that, after a few minutes, I heard him singing “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran, so I turned worriedly to his mother and told her I’d be lending her my   CDs (Pink...

The Beatles Will Always Be Here, There And Everywhere (And Will Always Take You To A Magical, Mystery Tour)

Lift up your hearts and sing me a song      That was a hit before your mother was born      Though she was born a long long time ago      Your mother should know      Sing it again...                               "Your Mother Should Know," Beatles       In the action/comedy movie Gringo (released just this year and which I was able to watch just a few days ago), which starred Charlize Theron (there are other lead stars but she’s the only one I can remember, lol), a Mexican drug cartel leader loves to ask his new acquaintances if they love the Beatles. If yes, he will ask them what they think is the Beatles’ greatest album. An answer not to his liking will have dire consequences. The greatest Beatles album for him is, unfortunately, Let It Be —it’s probably part of the j...
