The Rains That Won't Stop

Image
I don’t know, maybe because of its first two lines (we've been experiencing unending strong rains these past few days), but Boz Scaggs “We’re All Alone” appeared on my News Feed yesterday and this morning. It’s a great song, of course, and Boz’s voice is great so I just had to play it repeatedly when it appeared on my feed. And now, it won't leave my head. A few posts away from it when I saw it this morning was the news that some cities in Metro Manila would soon be on a strict lockdown again (you know, the type where you need a quarantine pass to go out of the house) because of the fast-spreading Delta variant of Covid-19.      Rains that wouldn’t stop, the threat of a lockdown that would limit your time outside, a government that's unconcerned with its people, and a famished bank account that begs for a deposit, I’m feeling very alone now. Lol.       But really, these types of days just depress you.      Hopefully, the rain will soon stop, the lockdown won’t

Under The Weather (It's Raining Cats And Puppies)

Yesterday morning, I woke up feeling a little under the weather, wanted to rest; besides, it was raining cats and puppies, er, dogs, but our dog (a 3-month-old beagle) had a scheduled vaccination with the vet, and our puppy’s health preceded my health, and no one else was available to accompany him, so off I took the dog to the vet.      My condition worsened after going home, I was already nursing a slight fever, which was a little scary. But no, I was already vaccinated, so I really shouldn’t worry about contracting and dying of Covid-19, even via its deadly transmission agent, the Delta.      I chilled a bit so I decided not to take a bath. Anyway, after the vet, I wasn’t going anywhere yesterday. Believe me, me not taking a bath is a very rare occurrence. Me going out without taking a bath is a rarer occurrence. Rarer than a person being born with a tail. The last time I went out without taking a bath that day and the previous day (I was nursing a fever and a cough and

Loyal

It was the moment right after they had made love passionately, while they snuggled naked on the bed, Eleanor asked him to sing for her. “Never My Love,” she said when he asked what song she had in mind. “It’s my favorite.” And he sang it to her, while her eyes were closed. “Your loyalty is all I demand,” she told him after he finished singing. “If you’re scared of me leaving,” he said. “Don’t be.” He kissed her and added, “I’d be loyal to you like a dog to his master.” She smiled contentedly, and he understood where she was coming. Six ex-boyfriends, all of whom she loved dearly and faithfully, all deceived her and broke not only her heart but also her soul. A year after he vowed to love her forever, he met Michelle, who was younger, prettier, sexier, wilder—and they had an all-consuming relationship. But one day, exactly thirty days after he had dumped Eleanor, while he was taking a shower, a strange, mind-blowing, fantastical transformation happened to him—he be
