A Conversation About A Former Stripper, A Vampire, Lots Of Skeletons And Real Love

Image
One thing that would always amuse him about Ellen was her propensity to ask weird questions. “What if the girl you really love kill somebody, will you still love her?” she asked him once. “Yeah, and I will help her hide the body.” “You’re just kidding, right.” “I was only trying to emphasize that I would always try to understand her.” “What if she turns out to be a single mom?” “I have a single mom for an ex-girlfriend.” “What if you find out that she had lived in with a man.” “It’s in the past, maybe she really loved the man before.” “What if she has a secret sex video?” “Everyone will make a few bad decisions in their life.” “What if she was a former drug dealer? Or a stripper? Or serial killer?” “Ellen, nothing in her past would make me dislike her.” “What if she really has lots of skeletons in the closet?” “I would help her dismantle them.” “You’re a martyr.” “The keywords here are you really love . Real love always understands. And I'm f

The Great Divide Between Chow Yun-fat and Juan Ponce Enrile

Image
It almost came out in the news simultaneously. Hong Kong Superstar Chow Yun-fat, 63, announcing that he’s already thinking of retiring and that he’s planning to give his fortune (around $700M) to charity and Juan Ponce Enrile, 94, declaring that he wants to win as a senator again. See the irony?      Now who is Chow Yun-fat? He’s an action star and a superstar in Hong Kong, and most of his films (especially with John Woo) are awesome, google best of Hong Kong cinema and you’ll likely find some of his films there (A Better Tomorrow, Hard Boiled, The Killer; these three films are all must-watch.) And he’s known to be vey humble, kind and down-to-earth (he commutes, eats street food, eats in food stalls instead of fancy restaurants and loves to shop at discount stores and wears cheap clothes) and spends just around $140 monthly (around Php7K).      And listen to his reason on why he commutes and doesn’t want a driver: “If I hire a driver, I would feel bad because he

The 1-Billion Ultra Lotto Prize and Your Chance of Taking It Home

Image
So no one has yet to win the Ulta Lotto (6/58) in the Philippines. The prize has now gone up to a more than a billion pesos. Mind-boggling. All of your dreams will definitely be fulfilled by this amount of money, except if your dream is to buy a country. You’ll need more than a billion pesos for that. Filipinos everywhere are queuing at every lotto outlet, dreaming of grabbing that cash. I really am not a fan of lottery, so I haven’t placed a bet on it, though I bought tickets in the past. I actually prefer the scratch cards, the excitement and the suspense that you feel while scratching is incomparable. Lol. Incidentally, here’s an interesting STORY about the scratch cards      But what really are the odds when you buy lottery tickets?      It is often said that your chance of being hit by a lightning twice is better than you hitting the jackpot. The odds of you winning the Ultra Lotto is 1 to 40 million while the odds of you being hit by a lightning is 1 to 10 milli

I'm Thinking Of Things That Start With The Letter M

Image
“I’m thinking of all things that start with the letter M.” –Mad Hatter      A Facebook post of mine with the above quote appeared in my Facebook memory today, October 5. I posted it exactly four years ago, while I was rewatching the movie where the quote came from, Alice In Wonderland (2010), on HBO. It starred Mia Wasikowska and Johnny Depp, a movie which just a few nights ago, I watched again in its entirety, this time on Fox Movie Channel. Needless to say, it’s a very entertaining movie.      It has been four years, and yet, I'm still thinking of a beautiful pers--, er, of wonderful things that start with the letter M, like milk tea, mango and yup, Mayon Volcano.      So, why is a raven like a writing desk?      Answer it, quick! Stop grinning like a Cheshire cat. You don’t know the answer, do you?      Off with your head!

Do Dreams Have Meaning and Purpose?

Image
He was sitting at a table inside a restaurant, there's an untouched bottle of wine on the table, and there's a man, a stranger, sitting beside him. Then, he saw a familiar woman approaching their table. She, too, sat at the table, directly in front of the man beside him. She and the man began to talk while he tried to catch her eyes so he could greet her, but no, she wouldn't look nor even glance at him. She and the man kept talking—about what, he couldn't really hear.      Then, he remembered that the wine was a gift from her to him.       He again tried to catch her eyes, but still, she would look only at the man in front of her. It's then that he noticed that she looked sad and haggard—       Then he woke up—it was just a dream. It was only four in the morning.      The next   day, he remembered that dream and decided to look at her Facebook account to see how she was doing—they had not communicated for probably two months now. They w

Put A Little More, Congressman John Bertiz III

Image
Last week, a video of   Party-List Congressman John Bertiz III speaking to   engineering board passers during their oath-taking at the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) went viral. In the video, Congressman Bertiz was heard saying, in a serious, almost angry tone, that all the passers who didn’t know SAP Bong Go (apparently, the congressman’s patron in MalacaƱang who’s aiming to be a senator) would not get their license, a declaration that was booed by his audience.       Congressman Bertiz III apologized and said that he was only joking at that time, a proof that most people in this present government are nothing but a joke.       Then just a few days after the PRC incident, Congressman Bertiz III struck again. He was seen in yet another viral video ignoring common airport rules and berating and bullying an airport worker whose only crime was to remind him of a certain airport rule.       Congressman Bertiz III, after offering absurd  explanations (w
