WHY YOU SHOULD VOTE FOR ROXAS, OR POE, OR DUTERTE, OR DEFENSOR-SANTIAGO, OR (Ugh!) BINAY! (Or Why May 9 Is Truly An Important Day)
Less than a month from now, on May 9, the Filipino people will once again
march to polling precincts and elect a new headach—, er, a new president.
Running for the presidency are Vice President Jojo Binay, Senator Miriam
Defensor-Santiago, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, Senator Grace Poe and DILG
Secretary Mar Roxas.
Only less than a month to go and I am still undecided (like
many Pinoys) on who to vote—it’s not because these candidates are all stellar;
it is because we don’t see in them the qualifications we are looking for in a
president.
But still, we Pinoys need to choose—and we need to choose carefully.
Our country's future here is at stake. Here are some (not so profound) reasons why you should vote for one of them:
REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD VOTE FOR MAR ROXAS:
You like how the present administration is running the
government, and if Roxas wins, he’ll definitely just continue it, there’ll be
no changes in major government policies, you might even see some of the present cabinet osecretaries and other key government officials being reappointed; and PNoy will happily retire, with no
charges hounding him
He sounds and looks decent and smart; capable of mingling well
with other world leaders.
He seems free of any illnesses and you want your president
to be healthy.
You like how he is anti-Marcos and the assurance that if he
wins, Former Dictator Ferdinand Marcos’s body will stay wherever it is and will not
be given a hero’s burial.
You’re a fan of Korina Sanchez.
Your favorite color is yellow.
Both of you like Plants vs Zombies.
REASONS YOU SHOULD TRUST GRACE POE:
You like the idea of a female president, you think they are
more compassionate, more honest and incorruptible compare to male leaders.
You’re an FPJ fan.
You have the heart for foundlings.
You like how she sounds and speaks like Chiz Escudero now.
You like everything American.
You like your president young and still not in danger of
acquiring Alzheimer’s.
You like beer.
Your favorite color is white.
REASONS YOU SHOULD VOTE FOR RODRIGO DUTERTE:
You like what he has done for Davao City.
You think federalism will be good for the country.
You want drastic changes in government.
You like the idea of a tough, macho and a down-to-earth
president, one who loves women and is loved by women, one who doesn’t mince words when expressing
himself and castigating his critics, one who f-cking hates criminals and drug
pushers and other motherf-cking law breakers.
You dream of living in a Utopian society where criminals and
corrupt government officials are things you only read in fiction and don’t
exist in real life, like unicorns. What, unicorns aren’t real?
Cursing excites the f-ck out of you.
You hate criminals—Okay, I think I have already mentioned
that.
REASONS YOU SHOULD CHOOSE MIRIAM DEFENSOR-SANTIAGO:
You want your president to be highly intelligent and
articulate, one who has a vocabulary wider than Webster’s.
You want a president who is highly experienced in all three
branches of government—judiciary, legislative and executive.
You’re a Marcos loyalist and you love the idea that she’s currently playing
footsie with Bongbong.
You love pick-up lines.
