Political Cheers, Threats, Curses And Facebook
Two days ago, I nonchalantly made a satirical political comment on a post on the ABS-CBN News Facebook page, a comment which garnered more than three thousand reactions and more than 200 comments in a few hours. Lol. The previous highest number of reactions I got for a comment of mine was more than two thousand, a comment (satirical, too) I made, I think, on a post on the FB page of Philippine Daily Inquirer broadsheet. Of the more than 200 comments made on my comment two days ago, half of them were agreeing and cheering me, the other half (from government supporters and fanatics) were either wishing me to be afflicted with various illnesses or threatening me with bodily harm. Aside from the comments and reactions, I also received a private message from a woman whose profile picture was that of a cute baby girl, probably her daughter, cursing me.
Most of those threats, of course, were gone with the wind as soon as they were made, with the owners probably forgetting that they made a threat to a stranger after an hour. But the fact that an anti-government post hinting on the government’s incompetence would receive thousands of (agreeable) reactions in just a few hours shows how many people have grown malcontent with this government. It’s just sad that with the pandemic, the threat of being infected with the virus and the joblessness all around the country, most people could only show their dissent through social media.
It’s only two days before the advent of the new year, my wish is for more people to grow wary of every inept government.
