Visiting A Nearby Tower While You're Alone Again (Naturally)

So he went to a nearby tower, not to amuse himself—but to jump from the top to kill himself.

He thought that it was the only way that people would understand the pain and loneliness he was feeling.

But before that, he was a cheerful, bright young man who was ready and eager to play a new role in life— a loving husband. But then, tragically, his bride didn’t show up in the church, shattering him, and embarrassing him to his family and friends. “My God, that’s tough, she stood him up,” said one of the guests before leaving the church.

And while he wasn’t fully recovered from that tragedy, his father died, leaving his mother depressed. He tried to make his mother happy, but he failed and soon, at sixty five, she died with a broken heart, making him cry endlessly, making him question if God really did exist.

    Making him suicidal.

Well, a video of the hit song “Alone Again (Naturally)” by Gilbert O’Sullivan (it went to the top of Billboard Charts right after its release in 1972 and stayed there for six weeks) appeared on my News Feed this morning, and the plot above is basically the story of the song, which many consider one of the saddest songs ever written. And I agree. Well, I can relate to the sudden death of the narrator’s father, which eventually led to the utter sadness and death of his mother. My mother was so heartbroken with my father's unexpected death that she became ill and died after a few years.

If you’re depressed, do yourself a favor and don’t listen to this song.

Don't be deceived by how casually the singer was singing the song.
