A Giant Fly

Last week, we created an account on Disney+, thinking of ditching our Netflix account. It looks good as majority of Disney, Pixar and Marvel movies/series/animations are on this streaming channel, and I like superhero movies and animations.

But ironically, the first movie I watched on it is The Fly (1986), a classic horror/sci-fi film which starred Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis, a film I’ve been wanting to watch. In the movie, Jeff is a nice and unassuming scientist on the verge of inventing something that will change the world— a teleportation machine, while pretty Geena is a journalist covering and recording his process. They fall in love but before Mr. Scientist could perfect his machine, a freak laboratory accident occurs, which slowly turns him into a monster, physically and emotionally. But despite his horrible appearance (he’s turning into a giant fly), smell and attitude and his unrelenting cravings for sex and sugar, the journalist (whose name is Ronnie) remains in love with him and never attempts to swat him. I guess people named Ronnie really are loyal and faithful and love genuinely. Lol.

This entertaining film has lots of moments that will gross you out, but it’s basically a love story, like a reverse version of Beauty and the Beast, though it has no and-they-live-happily-ever-after ending.

We still have our Netflix account, but in the meantime, I’d probably rewatch some Marvel movies.

     Avengers, assemble!
