Enigma

It’s an enigma, an exquisite one

A jigsaw puzzle he’s been trying to solve for years

One moment, he seems about to crack it

The next, it’s befuddling as ever

One moment, it stares as you, like it’s fascinated by you

The next, it glares at you like it wants to destroy you

One moment, it seems everything will fall into place

The next, every part is in the wrong place

He tries to set it aside numerous times

 His mind’s tired already

Aching to find a friendlier puzzle

But he keeps coming back to trying to decipher it

Understand it

And then take it home

Put it on a pedestal

Cherish it

Make sure it stays whole

That it won’t break again

It’s just that every time he seems about to put it all together

The wind will blow all the pieces away

But one day, he finally solves it

And the image he sees when he finally interlocks all the pieces

Is an image of him…
