Copilot and a Paranoid Android
A few weeks
ago, I was trying to create a (commissioned) concept for a planned comics for
children, and as usual, I first browsed
through music albums (mostly rock) to procure some ideas. Lots of my stories (I
am, believe it or not, a published writer) come from song titles, and I mean a lot, (my
first published komiks story was entitled “Brain Damage” from Pink Floyd’s “Brain
Damage”) and so while I was browsing some Radiohead albums, I saw “Paranoid
Android” from OK Computer album. OK Computer is the band’s best
album, IMO, and “Paranoid Android” is the best song in the album and, according
to myriads of music critics, one of the best songs of all time. Its title comes
from “Marvin the Paranoid Android” from the book The Hitchhiker’s Guide to
Galaxy. Thom Yorke, Radiohead's frontman, wrote it after an unpleasant encounter with some
stalkers inside a bar.
Anyway, so
I was trying to write a concept about an android which is, well, paranoid and
has anxiety, in a wholesome and kid-friendly way. But the concept evolved (it's not really a good idea to look at rock music for inspiration for kid-friendly stories, lol) and I
ended up with a robot that hates the responsibilities he was assigned with. I’ve
already submitted the script and as of this moment, I am yet to receive feedback.
But back to
“Paranoid Android,” I asked Copilot what it considers Radiohead’s best song, and
it put “Paranoid Android” on top of its list of five songs. It describes the
song as “a sprawling, multi-part epic that blends prog rock, dystopian angst
and haunting beauty.” The rest of its list includes “Karma Police,” “Fake
Plastic Trees,” “Idioteque,” and “Reckoner.” My top five Radiohead songs
(except “Paranoid Android” and “Fake Plastic Trees”) slightly differ.
So yeah, if
you want to know how good Radiohead is, listen to “Paranoid Android.”
And while I
was at it, to prove that I’m a writer, lol, I also asked Copilot about me as a
writer and it said, while listing some of my works, “he is a Filipino writer
known for his contributions to graphic novels and speculative fiction… his
style is eerie and emotional… and has
flair for dark, atmospheric storytelling….”
Well,
Copilot, good job, lol, and next time, maybe you can add “brilliant” while
describing me as a writer, just send me how much you charge for it. Lol.
