A Band With Horns
As time goes on, I realize
Just what you mean to me,
And now, now that you're near
Promise your love that I've waited to share
And dreams of our moments together
Color my world with hopes of loving you.
Just days after I started listening to Chicago’s music again, posts mentioning the band started appearing on my Facebook News Feed, about the band, probably coincidence or, maybe, proof that social media, like Big Brother, is really watching every move you make and listening to everything you say. Terry Kath, the band’s guitarist and one of their vocalists, tragically died when he was just 32 years old--he accidentally shot himself in the head while playing with his gun.
Self-described
as a rock and roll band with horns,
most of their songs are upbeat, catchy, and feel-good.
One of
those posts is asking for the three greatest songs of Chicago. I can’t tell
their three greatest songs since I haven’t listened to all their songs but I
have my favorite three Chicago songs, namely, (1) “25 or 6 to 4,” (2) “Colour
My World,” and (3)“Make Me Smile,” though number three could easily be replaced
with “Old Days,” Or “Baby, What A Big Surprise,” or “Happy Man,” or “If You
Leave Me Now.” But “25 or 6 to 4,” an absolute toe-tapper, will always be number one. It’s just perfect,
Peter Cetera’s voice, Terry Kath’s guitar, and the horn section. The live version at Tanglewood sounds even better than the studio version.
The good thing
about Chicago, during the time of Terry Kath, was they had three vocalists, so
you really won’t get tired of the band’s voice. Terry Kath sang "Colour My World."
I’ve just
listened to a few Steely Dan songs; I’ll now be waiting for Facebook posts
about them. Lol.
