The Would-Be Queen (And That Man)

Her namesake (given name and surname) had been appearing every now and then on his Facebook News Feed these past few days, reacting and commenting on their common friends' posts, reminding him of her, so this one day, he finally let curiosity get the better of him and he searched for her in Facebook, to see how she was doing. And naturally, being curious about her would mean being curious with that man—so he also searched for that man.

He didn’t find them. Obviously, both of them didn’t have Facebook accounts and he had hints why.

He still remembers her as being the prettiest in the room when he first saw her—delicate white skin, long black hair tied in a bun, petite, eyeglasses, dressed conservatively. It was like the stars solely shone on her. And he would never forget her reaction when he first approached her desk and she saw him for the first time: she looked stunned and then was rattled. His first thought then about it was that it seemed like she thought she saw her bag’s snatcher again. Lol. But luckily that wasn’t the case; she seemed that she liked him at first sight. Yeah, it sounds unbelievable up to these days, but it seems to be really the case.

They became close, he was happy seeing her and he would catch her smiling whenever she saw him.

But apparently, she had high standards when it came to relationship—and high standards for her meant that her guy would focus only on her, that his world would only revolve around her, kind of euphemism for him being her servant/pet. Lol. But she promised to return the same level and amount of attention and affection to him.

But he couldn’t cope up with her. He tried to make his planet orbit solely on her sun but she still found him lacking, so she would rain meteors on him.

Then, she started cozying up and getting close to a much older married co-worker. “Oh, she’s just like a sister to me,” that man would tell everyone who would care to listen. “Like a younger sister.”

And a few months after the day that man repeated that oath, they eloped.

That's freakin' incest, he thought. Oh, God, but that man is ugly.

Well, he was hurt then, he loved her, but he could only shrug. Maybe, he was thinking, that man was ready to be his servant, ready to treat her as a queen, ready to treat her as the only star in his sky. Yeah, he heard how that man was her errand boy in the office.

Then, after a few years, horrid news about her and that man started reaching him.

That man was a drug addict…

     That man was a first-class a--hole…

That man was beating her up and was sending her to hospital on a regular basis…

     She tried to commit suicide…

Her mother was literally dragging her out of their house just so he would leave that man…

     And other relationship horror stories.

She only wanted to be treated a queen.

And she was willing to give her kingdom to that man.

Well, he was justified for wanting to maul that man and break his face back then, before all these brutal horror stories happened.
