Let Me Sell You Something

Image
A lot of people will agree with me that the section where they sell gadgets (cell phones, computers, etc) is the most terrifying section in a mall. Lol. The salespersons there are as aggressive as lions, as ferocious as tigers and as persistent as a zombie who wants your slightly-used brain. Once you get close to their store, they would lock their eyes on you, and once you ask a question (“Meron ba kayong…?”), they will swarm on you like hornets, like they will not allow you to get out alive unless you buy something.      A few days ago, I went to this section of a mall to buy a wireless mouse, and I wasn’t surprised that it was abandoned and looked like a ghost town—I told you, it’s a scary place.      As expected, the moment I got close to a store, three salespersons approached me with their claws drawn out and fangs visible and their eyes red. I stammered and said that I was just window shopping (I was in f...

Sweet Good Boy

Image
This morning, a nephew and I bought our dog (a beagle named Kylo) to the vet for a follow-up checkup. But I had to leave early to buy a few things from a nearby store. As I was walking home, I heard a dog barking loudly and continuously behind me. I looked back and saw Kylo inside a moving pedicab, looking out into my direction and barking at me. He recognized me even though I was around eighty meters away and had my back on him and there were people walking around me—and he seemed very happy to see me. He was probably wondering why I disappeared from the vet's clinic.      I stopped and waited for them as he continued to bark loudly at my direction—only stopping when the pedicab reached me. He even made space while I climbed inside the pedicab, then, he snuggled with me. Such a sweet, good boy.      His last few trips to the vet were a bit costly (he's well and okay now), but those sweet little acts of his ma...

A Sick Dog And An Uphill Battle

Image
This is somewhat a day of relief for us as after two and a half days of confinement inside a veterinary clinic, we were able to bring back our pet beagle home. He got sick with ehrlichiosis, a bacterial infection that primarily infects the cells of the immune system. Apparently, he was bitten by an infected tick, which was quite a surprise to us because we regularly give him an anti-flea and anti-tick chew (a costly protection for dogs). And we have no idea where he was bitten, maybe, while he was being walked outside or playing with other dogs.      He became noticeably lethargic and would barely eat—so we took him to his vet, who confirmed that he was indeed sick and needed adequate veterinary attention. So there, he was given dextrose and medicines. Anyway, he looks okay now, no more lethargy and is now eating well, but he still needs to take these gazillion of medicines given to us by the veterinarian.     ...
