Avoidants

 


     Lately, whenever I scroll through my Facebook account, several topics from Threads (the Twitter/X-like platform of Facebook) would appear on my News Feed, and one of the most persistent topics I would see was about this unfamiliar (to me) term: avoidants.

     Finally, this morning, I got curious and googled it—turns out it’s a personality disorder. Avoidant personality disorder (AVPD) is marked by poor self-esteem and an intense fear of rejection, including or especially when it comes to a romantic relationship. Some people with AVPD tend to choose partners they view as less demanding, or of lower status, or emotionally unavailable, individuals who aren’t likely to reject or criticize them. Meaning, rather than commit to a serious relationship to someone with whom they share a mutual love, they’d go for flings, or one-night stands, or married individuals. You know, the kinds of relationship that are easily escapable, or well, avoidable.

    I don’t know, but it’s a folly to think that someone who truly loves you and has loved you for so long will reject you.

     But then, that’s why it’s called a disorder.

     Anyway, another Threads topic that currently persists on my News Feed is about the news that the smartphone OnePlus is shutting down its operations in the whole of Europe and US but will continue in other parts of the world. The reason, fans of the said smartphone say, is to focus on its sister brand, Oppo. But rest assured, OnePlus people say, that updates to OnePlus phones will continue.

    I own a OnePlus phone, OnePlus 15, which is just three months old, and I am not reassured—there have been talks that OnePlus will eventually shut its entire operation down.

     Should have just bought a pager.

       Roger Waters (former Pink Floyd frontman) and Thom Yorke (Radiohead frontman), two of my favorite songwriters of all time, continue to feud with each other. The quarrel started a few years ago, I think, when Roger wrote and asked Thom not to perform in Israel, which Thom ignored. Roger has been protesting Israel for a long time and asking his fellow artists no to go and perform there. He called Thom “damaged and not very bright.” Lol.      I learned that a friend had recently undergone surgery for myoma, which was a common benign tumor in uterus, and wished her well. I really don’t know what causes it, but no, long-term celibacy doesn’t cause it. Lol.      I have an Instagram account which is empty and pointless and thoroughly inactive, but despite that, one account had the temerity to follow me. Lol. "Hey, This Song Has Built A House Inside My Head!"

If you'd notice, I'd put a little musical thingamajig somewhere on this blog and I called it Last Song Syndrome. Last Song Syndrome, of course, happens when a song you just heard refuses to leave your mind for hours or even for days. You sing it or hum it while working or while taking a bath or changing your baby's or your granddad's diaper or taking your dog for a walk or just bumming around. I listen to a lot of Pink Floyd songs so most often than not, it is a Pink Floyd song that will always swirl inside my head. But I also listen to other musicians. I'll try to dissect and write a small background of every song that I will feature in this blog. The Final Cut is one of my fave Pink Floyd songs. AND HERE'S SOME BAD NEWS...

Seventeen years ago, Maureen Hultman, 16 years old, Roland John Chapman, 21 and Jussi Olavi Leino, 24, were returning home from a party when they were accosted and confronted by Claudio Teehankee Jr, 45. Teehankee, who was unknown to the three, demanded some identification. Leino took out his wallet and showed Teehankee an ID. Chapman approached them and asked Teehankee: “Why are you bothering us?” Teehankee drew out his gun and shot Chapman in the chest. “Why did you shoot me?” Chapman asked Teehankee as he was crumpling to the ground. Chapman died on the spot. Teehankee then ordered the now hysterical Hultman and Leino to sit together on the sidewalk. While seated, unarmed and begging for mercy, the two were gunned down by Teehankee. Hultman was killed while Leino survived and later identified Teehankee as the gunman. The nation was enraged with that senseless crime and demanded that the death penalty be restored. Teehankee was sentenced to one count of reclusion perpetua (ranging f...
