Textmates

Image
So there’s this post about old Nokia cell phones (5110, 3210, 3310, et cetera) and people are sharing their experiences regarding the random textmates they made with these phones. I made a few, couldn’t help it as it was the rage those days, people texting random numbers to apply as textmate. So I became textmate with this lady who worked in a bank. We’d text each other every now and then, mostly jokes and quotes, but there was never a plan to meet, even though her work place wasn’t really far from our house, just two brief jeepney rides. Most of the time, I’d just walk to that area.      We’d been textmates for almost a month when I received a text from her at around five PM. Can I go to her work place? she asked. She’d be working overtime and she’d be alone in the office and she’s scared because there’d been reports that residents near the area would forcibly enter their building, looking for stuff to steal—so could I come?      I refused at first. I found the request a

Vhong, Adam And The Case of the Vanishing WiFi Signal

Image
Our WiFi signal disappeared last August 22 and despite repeatedly calling and chatting through Messenger with our Internet service provider for a repair, we only got back our internet yesterday, 21 st of September. A day more and it would exactly be a month, and I don’t know if it’s a world record, a month of a busted WiFi signal. But we’re still thankful as we have our own internet not and we’ve stopped depending on our neighbor’s (which house is across the street) weak, intermittent headache-inducing signal.      When I browsed through my Facebook again using our own internet, I saw that a warrant of arrest for rape has been issued to comedian Vhong Navarro. Eight years ago, model Deniece Cornejo accused Vhong Navarro of drugging her and then raping her. Don’t know much about the case but the news left me wondering if Deniece has a brother named Denephew.      Another viral story I saw is about Adam Levine (Maroon 5 vocalist). A woman went forward to accuse Adam (a marr

Everybody Waits

A cat waits for the fish to jump out of the bowl A dog waits for its master to come home A butterfly waits for a flower to bloom A bird waits for its eggs to hatch An ant waits for a grain to fall A bee waits for the night to rest A lover waits for a sign to pursue A doctor waits for his patient to breathe An atheist waits for a miracle to believe      A priest waits with him A criminal waits for its prey to relax A creator waits for his muse to create A billionaire waits for his slave A failure waits for just a little break A believer waits for the rapture      A tired gravedigger waits with him And a miser waits for the world to end Me, I’m just waiting for a Wi-Fi signal.

Girls, TikTok, and Dogs

Image
A few days ago, two young women were questioned by the police a while they were making a video for TikTok. The two girls rode a motorcycle and while one was driving, her angkas , complete with soap, pail and a tabo , was giving her a bath. Everyone could see how dangerous that stunt was not only for the two women but for the people on the road—so the cops were alerted. Jeez, the things young people would do these days— for likes, fame, and monetization. I am wondering what violation the police would charge them, just in case. Attempted suicide while taking a bath? Reckless imprudence resulting to a murderous bath? Months ago, TikTok videos started appearing compulsory on everyone’s Facebook News Feed and most of the videos that would appear on my News Feed were those of girls dancing provocatively while wearing skimpy clothes (to some, camel toes and nipples poking their shirt or sando were obligatory).      These provocative videos began vanishing  on my News Feed when I i
