AZAZEL: THE TWO CENTIMETER DEMON

Image
Yesterday, while I held a John Green book (An Abundance of Katherines) I borrowed from a niece, I received a text asking me what the f--- happened to my Facebook account. Did somebody hack it? Now, why would anyone be interested in hacking my dull FB account? No, I told the texter, I closed it because a supermodel had been stalking me and sending me naughty PMs and erotic pics of her and it ‘s starting to annoy me. That, of course, isn’t the truth but just an illusion.    I deactivated my Facebook account for a few days to enable myself to breathe a little, stop and smell the flowers, bask in the sunlight, reminisce about the good ole days, you know, ponder life’s complexities and the mysteries of the universe , and think about life’s authentic problems (like the forthcoming zombie apocalypse).   Okay, they aren't true either. I’m not in a habit of smelling the flowers—that’s too gay.   It’s not that I’m homophobic but I’d rather be dead than be cau...

Lang Leav's Love Poems And A Fan

Image
Beauty's Curse "Her bow is drawn to worlds of dark, where arrows spring and miss their mark— she'll turn their heads but not their hearts.”   It was during the last few frantic days before Christmas last year when I asked my niece on what book would be a nice gift to someone, a lady who adored books. My niece told me to give her Lang Leav’s first book. “Lang Leav who?” I remember asking, that was the first time I heard the strange-sounding name. “She’s a poet, and a writer, she’s very good, I love her poems, I follow her on Tumbler. Your friend’s gonna like it.” I took her advice seriously. You see, my niece is a lot smarter than me. An honor student since prep school,   she’s a voracious reader and has quite a high standard when it comes to books, so when she says that this particular book is good, it really is good. So off I went to a mall, trotted inside a bookstore and rummaged and turned it upside down for a copy of Lang Le...

A DUDE NAMED ANDRES

Si Andres Bonifacio, atapang a tao. Aputol a kamay, hindi atakbo. Aputol a paa, hindi atakbo. Apugot a ulo, hindi atakbo. Aputol a (bleep), atakbo atulin... Today, the Filipinos celebrate the 150 th birthday of one of its famous and beloved heroes, Andres Bonifacio.   Mr. Bonifacio, the real hero of the masses—forget Erap the thief who only uses the masses for his advantage—   spent his life trying to help liberate his country. He died while persisting in this noble mission— he was ordered killed by a notorious general. I am sure that no one’s going to contest it, that Andres is a certified hero. But when you say that someone like Manny Pacquiao, who like Andres is hogging the front page of the newspapers today, is also hero, I am going to howl in protest. Don’t get me wrong, I love Manny Pacquiao. I’ve become an instant avid fan the moment I saw him fight—he still was a flyweight then and was virtually nameless and had few fan...

GREED THAT STAGGERS

"As a service to the people, dapat magbigti na lang kaming lahat."                                                                                   Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago The Evolution of a Filipino Politician It has always been a given that most Filipino politicians are dirty and that   corruption in this country is endemic. Only 1 out of 10 politicians are probably honest and hardworking and are out to serve his countrymen. Ahmm, okay, I’m being very generous with that ratio. Only 1 out of 25 are honest and trustworthy. Most of these politician...
