Cashless

My bank, despite it having just a balance of 480 pesos, replaced my ATM card with a shiny debit card. Now, I can withdraw from ATMs across the country and all over the world. I can purchase things with it nationwide and worldwide from lots of physical stores. I can also buy from many websites, from fashion and electronics to travel and groceries.

But not with a balance of 480 pesos, of course.

The world seems to be really going cashless now. You can basically leave the house now and go anywhere without cash in your wallet, just your debit card or your GCash (phone or card), and of course your credit card.

In fact, as I walked towards a mall yesterday, a beggar called my attention to ask for some alms.

“Sorry, I don’t have cash with me. What I have is a debit card,” I said smugly.

“No problem,” he said. “I accept debit cards, Visa or Master.”

The bastard took all of my 480 pesos.
