The Saga of Sharmaine, Melanie, and Vanessa
So, there are these viral funny socmed posts that’s suggesting renaming Orange (the fruit)
to “Sharmaine,” avocado to “Melanie,” and the fly to “Vanessa.” On one TikTok
post, an orange is complaining about her unimaginative
name. “Dahil ba orange ang kulay ko, Orange na rin ang ipapangalan sa `kin,
bakit si Mango, dilaw siya pero hindi yellow ang pangalan niya?” she rues.
When asked
what name she would like to be given, she answered “Sharmaine.”
On another
TikTok post, a fly could be heard also grumbling about her name. “Dahil ba may
pakpak ako, Fly na agad ang pangalan ko?’ she laments. She prefers that
people call her “Vanessa.”
Meanwhile,
an avocado is also whining because a lot of people are assuming that she’s an abogado because of her name, thus her
desire to be renamed. She wants to be rechristened “Melanie.”
The problem
here is, I don’t know if fruits have sexes, but assuming they have, certainly, not
all oranges and avocados and flies are female. What about the male oranges,
avocados and flies? What if many of them used to be girls, yes, but are now
trans men? I mean, these male oranges, avocados and flies, a lot of them
probably work out every day and have biceps and abs, and the trans men, I'm sure they went through a difficult process of transitioning into boys, and people would just call
them “Sharmaine,” “Melanie,” and “Vanessa?” I’m sure they’d prefer to be called
“Thor” or “Johnson,” or “Bruce.”
Where is
the fairness there? Lol.
Anyway, “Sharmaine,”
“Melanie,” and “Vanessa” are pretty names, and many girls who own these names
are pretty, too. I don’t know, but people with relatives named “Sharmaine” and “Melanie,”
I don’t think they’d relish eating fruits that are named “Sharmaine” and “Melanie.”
But me, I love avocados, so I’d certainly and absolutely love to eat “Melanie,” with milk and a little
sugar. Avocado is considered a superfood, in case you didn’t know.
But I don’t
think I could ever swat a fly named “Vanessa.”
