JACK BAUER IS MY FAVORITE SUPERHERO

“Tell me where the bomb is or I will kill your son!”
-- Jack Bauer

My favorite superhero used to be Spiderman but not anymore.

Iron Man, Incredible Hulk and Batman are good but not enough to meet my standard.

I never liked Superman. I always have issues against a man who wears his pants before his underwear. Surely, there is something wrong with him. I think he’s nuts and that one day, he’s going to turn against the world and destroy it, unless all men start wearing underwear outside their pants.

My favorite superhero is Federal Agent Jack Bauer, Counter Terrorist Unit’s best field agent, the "terrorizer of the terrorists."

I was talking to a friend through SMS the other day when she asked me if I watched 24, she told me she saw a picture of Jack Bauer here in my blogsite. I said, “Yes, I’m a big fan.” Everyone in the family is, even my eleven year old niece is a big fan. I have watched Seasons 1 to 6; never missed a single episode. Season 7 is currently being aired on cable TV but we’d rather watch it on DVD.

Can you name one superhero who’s always able to solve (in exciting, dizzying, dazzling and suspenseful ways) problems created by terrorists that threaten to decimate half of America’s population and bring the world into another global war in just 24 hours?

Only Jack can do it, other superheroes need more time.

Okay, he can’t fly, he can’t be invisible and he can’t lift a truck with just one hand, he’s got no superpowers but he doesn’t need one. His skills (he’s an expert with guns, knives, martial arts, computers and other gadgets and in torturing and extracting information from criminals and he can fly planes and helicopters) are enough to save the world and the entire human race. He's the ultimate patriot and he's got an ultra-high threshold of pain. Enemies can torture him 24/7 for one year and he still won't give up one single state secret. Real-life CIA and FBI agents reportedly copy his style of interrogation and ways of extracting information from terrorists/criminals. Okay, the show sometimes borders to being unbelievable and ludicrous, it sometimes exaggerates things and situations but the bottom line is, it is always very entertaining.

Certainly, one of the most popular TV shows on earth today, 24, in my book, is the most exciting and suspenseful TV show ever created. And it’s presented in real time, too, meaning the events in the show unfold in real time. Yes, believe it or not, it’s more entertaining than Lost, Prison Break, Heroes, Totoy Bato and Kokey combined. A man recently entered Guinness Book of World Records for watching TV for 72 consecutive hours. Guess what show kept him awake? You’re right, it’s 24. He watched three seasons of 24 straight.

Jack is violent, brutal, short-tempered, trigger-happy, he rarely smiles and is oftentimes lonely and depressed and is the type who won’t hesitate to point a gun at the US president and torture even his own brother and aim a gun at his father and kill some of his friends (remember, he’s doing all these nasty things to stop terrorists from killing millions of people) but he is also a caring father, a loving husband and a committed boyfriend. He’s always ready to die for his loved ones as long as they don’t get in the way of his mission to save the world.

If you’ve been reading the headlines these past few days, you’ll know that some really high-ranking and influential Philippine government officials are being implicated in some heinous and really gruesome crimes. Wouldn’t it be nice if Jack would be assigned to interrogate them?

“Dammit, Bigote, confess!”” Jack would probably yell at the prime suspect, “You are going to tell me everything I want to know or I swear to God I will hurt you before I kill you, and no one will be able to stop me.”

With Jack interrogating (and torturing) the suspects, the case will surely be resolved within 24 hours.

"Dammit!"

Ganda rin Dexter, next to 24, e, ito 'yong fave TV show ko. Mas action-packed lang talaga 'yong 24 at daming twists.

Which reminds me of THE EQUALIZER, inabot mo ba ito noong 80s ?
