ONE OF THE BEST VAMPIRE MOVIES YOU'LL EVER SEE

Oskar: Are you a vampire?
Eli: I live off blood.
Oskar: Are you... dead?
Eli: No. Can't you tell?

I was surfing the net, looking for good movies to watch when I stumbled upon a review of this 2008 Swedish film, Let The Right One In. I instantly got interested with the film because, aside from that glowing review, it was a horror film. A vampire movie, to be specific. I have always been fascinated about vampires. I always try to watch and read movies and books about vampires.

I immediately looked for a copy of the movie and watched it. It didn’t disappoint. It’s one of the best vampire movies I’ve ever watched. It’s definitely a lot better than Twilight (yes, that vampire movie which starred a male vampire whose face was always heavily powdered and whose girlfriend did nothing but gush on his perfectly gorgeous face); I even tried reading the book from which the movie was based but I just couldn’t finish it).

Let The Right One In is about the relationship between Oskar (a 12-year old boy who is lonely and doesn’t have any friend and whose parents have divorced and who’s being cruelly bullied in school) and a 12-year old female vampire named Eli who has been twelve for a very long time. Eli, like Oskar, is lonely and aloof and lives in an apartment which is almost free of any furniture and sleeps in a bathtub covered with thick blanket during daytime. She only comes out at night. Oskar dreams of having his violent revenge against his bullies and Eli will help him achieve it.

The movie is hauntingly beautiful. It is sweet, subtle and gory, gentle and brutal. There are no hysterics or slam-bang or fast-paced action. It is what a vampire movie should be. Quiet and brooding. It will touch and enhance your movie-watching life. Watch it. A Hollywood remake is reportedly already in the works.

And remember, you have to invite Eli in.
