It's Showtime for the Look-alikes
Years ago, when I saw the photo of someone who had just sent me a friend request on Facebook, my first thought was, “Kamukha ni Steve Harvey.” The bald head, the mustache, the shape of the face, the skin color, they will remind you of the American comedian. My FB friend’s probably just a few years younger. I don’t know him personally, we just have common FB friends, so we don’t talk to each other. We’d just occasionally like and comment on each other’s posts so I haven’t told him that he, not Dingdong, should be hosting the local version of Family Feud. Lol.
But this morning, while scrolling on my News Feed, I learned that he was a contestant in It’s Showtime’s KalokaLike portion (where contestants are purported to resemble a celebrity, local or international) as, you guessed it, Steve Harvey. Though unfortunately, I read that he reached the semifinals, but didn’t qualify for the finals.
I don’t watch TV these days so I really am not aware of the contest, but I watched a YouTube video featuring the semifinalists, and it was star-studded. On the international side, aside from Steve Harvey, I saw Stephen Curry, LeBron James, Bruno Mars, Ariana Grande, Jason Momoa, and (LOL) Snoop Dogg. The domestic look-alikes include Boy Abunda, Ely Buendia and the family-oriented, Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo.
Since I am an NBA fan, I hope it will be a close three point shoot-out, er, fight between Steph Curry and LeBron (these two have gone viral even before the contest), with Snoop Dogg capable of pulling an upset.
But seriously, looking at the contestants, the Ariana Grande contestant could be mistaken as the real thing.
