Nice Villains

I’ve just watched the first season (hopefully there’d be more seasons) of brand-new TV show Detective Hole and season one of Fargo on Netflix, and both were a mesmerizing watch. Detective Hole is a Norwegian crime drama series and an adaptation of Jon Nesbo’s The Devil’s Star novel while Fargo is a black comedy crime drama TV series based on the 1996 film Fargo (which is also great).

These two shows have one thing in common: genuinely scary and really smart main villain. The villain in Fargo is a calm, charismatic, manipulative, and psychopathic hitman who relishes killing people while the antagonist in Detective Hole is a vicious corrupt cop. Some of their scenes are so intense and terrifying I had to pause the TV just to breathe. Lol.

Both these shows also have likable protagonists.

I hope the rest of the seasons of Fargo (it already has five seasons) are all great. Season one won several major TV awards including best actor for the main villain.

And Detective Hole's full name is Hai--, er, Harry Hole, yes.

I am now waiting for the season 5 (the final season) of The Boys, another show that has a truly scary main villain, who also happens to have Superman-like superpowers.
