Virus, Politicians And Strangers From Hell

Today is Tuesday, 26th of May, the 71st day since the Luzon-wide lockdown and the tenth day since the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) was implemented.

So I started watching, upon the recommendation of my niece, the Korean series Strangers from Hell (2019, see photo above). Genre is horror/mystery, it has one season, 10 episodes and available on Netflix). Story’s about a young office worker who dreams of becoming a writer (he’s on the first few pages of his first book, a crime novel). Due to financial constraints, he is forced to live in a cheap boarding house (really small rooms, common bathroom, common kitchen), together with some weirdos and psychos who unbeknown to him are brutal serial killers. The series is dark, intense and creepy (some comments I’ve read about the show include “it will give you nightmares” and “it will make you nauseous”).

Yesterday, I watched another film by Oriol Paulo (The Invisible Guest, The Body) entitled Mirage (2018), a mystery/drama film tackling time travel, and as usual, it's good, and quite an emotional film with the director's patented major twist arriving at the start of the third act. You can catch it on Netflix, and catch it, you must.

There are now 14,699 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Philippines today, with 350 new cases, while there are 3,412 recoveries (89 new today) and 886 deaths (13 today).

350 is the highest single-day reported confirmed cases in the last fifty days. I told you, this inept government isn’t capable of flattening the curve, and what’s scary, everyone is talking about how we now should ease the restrictions of the lockdown more (meaning public transport like LRT, MRT, the buses and jeepneys would be allowed and other non-essential establishments like movie houses and concert and sports venues would open —so help us God.

We need to storm the heaven with intense prayers.

Lord, keep us safe from the virus and inept and corrupt politicians.
