A World of Pain

Five years ago, weeks before the pandemic, I thought I damaged a nerve or strained some muscle on my back. I couldn’t move my left arm well, I couldn’t raise it and it hurt when I put my hand on my back. I also felt pins and needles and some burning sensation throughout my body, which felt worse during the night. And I would wake with my whole body aching, like I was just mauled by a violent minotaur. It was an experience you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy.

Naturally, I went to Google, not to a doctor, lol, and found some exercises to treat it. And after a few weeks, I thought I got healed, I could already move my arm well, I could raise it and move it to my back without pain and I could ride my bike without pain, and the pins and needles and burning sensation were gone. Only downside, I still could feel some minor pain when I tried to lift some weights. I wasn’t a bodybuilder so it was okay, I just avoided lifting some heavy weights.

Fast forward to a few weeks ago, there was some water interruption in our area and I needed to carry water-filled five-gallon containers from the ground to our bathroom in the second floor—I did it for two days, and on the third day, my injury recurred. There was pain again whenever I moved my left arm, and the pins and needles and burning sensation were back. It was more painful than an unrequited love. Lol. I was in a world full of pain again.

So I went back to Google, did some research again, and discovered, or so I assumed, that what I injured was my rhomboid muscle. I searched for some stretching exercises on YouTube to treat it, I even bought some pain relief cream (capsaicin) online and I thought it was quite working, but I wasn’t totally healing. I mean, the pain would disappear and the unpleasant sensations but would reappear whenever I did some aggressive movements or lift some heavy objects.

I’m now thinking of going to a physical therapist, which hopefully would fully heal me, but stubborn that I am, I’m still giving these YouTuber doctors a chance to fully heal me for a week. Lol.
