Songs That Make You Happy Or Sad

“What are the songs that instantly make you happy or feel good the moment it plays and what songs instantly make you sad?’

I saw this question just this morning on a Facebook page that I don’t even follow. I didn’t comment but I looked at the answers and saw lots of familiar happy and depressing tunes (for the feel-good songs, I saw The Turtles’ “Happy Together” a lot and for the sad ones, I saw, expectedly, “Alone Again (Naturally)” a lot.

For me, I had a lot of instant feel-good songs, but the first one that came into my mind that moment was Paul McCartney’s “Coming Up.” Years ago, that song always perked me up. I haven’t had the opportunity to listen to it again for months now, I think, but I think it still would have the same effect on me once I hear it again. I once read an article that John Lennon changed his mind from retiring from music into being active again the moment he heard “Coming Up.” “A good piece of work,” John reportedly said about the song.

On the songs that make me sad, we have a neighbor that loves listening to sentimental songs, and a few days ago, one of the songs that came out of their squeaky speakers was Enrique Iglesias’ “Somebody’s Me.” I thought it was familiar the moment I heard it, and it instantly sort of affected me once I recognized it, not because I could relate to it but that I know somebody who I assumed related to it (or could still relate to it, I don’t know). This somebody I know once posted the song on their Facebook page with an emotional caption, and the song’s quite emotional indeed, it's about someone who bemoans the fact that they couldn’t be with the one they love because the one they love is already committed to somebody else.

    Sad, isn’t it?

Anyway, the post (about the songs that make you feel glad or sad) already has thousands of reactions and comments, which only means that music will always be a pertinent part of everyone’s life.
