Music Lovers

I have no doubt that our neighbors love music. As I write this, music (Mariah Carey’s “All I want for Christmas is You”) is blasting out of their speakers. They play music almost every day. From morning till night. There are days it would be so loud residents from ten miles away would complain. Sometimes, well, it ain’t so loud. They seem to always play a set list of a certain genre, for example, Tagalog hip hop/rap/reggae songs (Andrew E, “Shoot-Shoot, Gloc 9’s “Upuan,” Nik Makino’s “Moon.” These genres would play for hours. And then stop. And when they play music again after a few hours, a new set of songs from a genre (for example, OPM ( Roel Cortez’s “Sa Mata Makikita,” Claire Dela Fuente’s “Sayang,” or Freddie Aguilar’s “Magbago Ka.” Or mellow rocks, like Enrique Iglesias’ “Somebody’s Me,” Styx’s “Babe,” or The Carpenters’ “You”) will play.

YouTube’s algorithm is probably the culprit here. Yes, I think they listen to YouTube.

They play a lot of songs, but these songs I have mentioned are the most replayed ones. Yesterday, I think, they played “Magbago Ka” 2,823 times. And The Carpenters’ “You” 2, 940 times. Lol. Roel Cortez is also a favorite. They very rarely play Beatles songs, or progressive rock (Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Genesis, etc) or heavy rock (Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Guns N Roses, etc) or heavy metal (Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Metallica) or alternative music (Nirvana, Radiohead, or Alice in Chains), which is quite, well, a shame. It’s Roel Cortez over Paul McCartney. Or Bob Dylan, though I don’t like Bob Dylan, too. Sometimes, they sing along to the songs. Yesterday, the lady of the house belted “Minsan Minsan” together with Miss Claire herself.

Music soothes the savage breast, they say. So yeah, we try to stop getting annoyed when they play their music quite loud, though, whenever their music stops, I turn our speakers on, tune in to YouTube via Bluetooth, turn the speakers around to face the windows, in the direction of our neighbors’ house, and play heavy metal songs as loud as our speakers could. Just kidding.

I play Pink Floyd. Or The Beatles. Lol.
