Funny Office Workers

Image
The Office (the American version) is officially on Netflix now—and because it’s one of the reasons I resubscribed to Disney+, I decided to cancel my Disney+ subscription. It’s not that Disney+ is bad, it’s just that Netflix is a lot better for me and its line-up of shows more satisfying.      The Office , starring Steve Carrel (the boss), John Krasinski (of the A Quiet Place movies), Rainn Wilson and Jenna Fischer among others, is an award-winning mockumentary sitcom TV series. It depicts the everyday work lives of employees of a paper company while a documentary camera follows them.      Rolling Stone named it as one of the greatest TV shows of all time.      I’m still on the last few episodes of Season 3 so I don’t know if I can wholly agree with Rolling Stone , but almost all the episodes I have watched are hilarious. The show ran for nine seasons (from 2005-2013) and every season has twenty plus episodes ...

An Illusion of Dragon

Image
Yes, he still remembers and cherishes that connection…      More than four decades ago, he, then a married man with kids, suddenly got close with a pretty single co-worker.      She showered him with favors and attention; the other workers could see that.      She would flirt with him with her eyes and would always be thrilled to see him.      She would always ask him to sit close to her whenever they were together in a room.      “If you have any feelings for her,” he would tell his male friends, “Forget it.”      He was certain she would eagerly run away with him once he decided to leave his family for her—but he decided to stay with his wife.      And that she remained unmarried because she couldn't get over him.      “Do you see that?” he tells the man in white standing beside him when something distracts him from his...

Movies and Love and Its Side Effects

Image
Accidentally found the card (lifetime membership in Video City, a video rental shop) above yesterday while rummaging through a drawer of mine containing junks. Can't remember when I became a member, probably in mid 90s. I was also a member of several small video rental shops in our place. My favorite movie of all time? Probably The Godfather (1972). Home Alone (1990) is a close second. Lol. I remember reading the The Godfather book first and getting enthralled by it, I didn’t know that the movie was better than the book, which as movies-based-on-books go, was a rare occurrence.      Last movie I watched, just last Saturday, was Obsession (2025), a horror movie about a guy in love with a co-worker, who obviously has no intention of initiating a romantic relationship with him. He then stumbled upon a magical, supernatural thingy that grants a wish (an old, overused trope, I know), just one wish (a genie is much more generous, obviously), one ...

Kawhi, Michael, and Cinnamon

Image
There are rumors going on that Kawhi Leonard is coming back to San Antonio Spurs. Some big shots in San Antonio probably read my blog wherein I said that Kawhi Leonard could limit or completely shut down Jalen Brunson. Lol.       The Office is coming to Netflix. Some Netflix honchos probably read my blog wherein I confessed that one of the reasons I resubscribed to Disney+ is because I wanted to finish watching The Office . Lol.      Actually, this blog entry is about the delivery of the cinnamon powder (49 grams) I ordered online. Cinnamon is a small part of my health regimen. It’s rich in antioxidants, it’s anti-inflammatory, supports heart health, regulates blood sugar, and may help fight cancer and lower blood pressure. And for women, it may reduce menstrual pain. I consume half a teaspoon or less in my coffee or tea, and that’s it, I’ll partake of it the next day. You can also add it to yogurt or smoothies ...

Cashless

Image
My bank, despite it having just a balance of 480 pesos, replaced my ATM card with a shiny debit card. Now, I can withdraw from ATMs across the country and all over the world. I can purchase things with it nationwide and worldwide from lots of physical stores. I can also buy from many websites, from fashion and electronics to travel and groceries.      But not with a balance of 480 pesos, of course.      The world seems to be really going cashless now. You can basically leave the house now and go anywhere without cash in your wallet, just your debit card or your GCash (phone or card), and of course your credit card.      In fact, as I walked towards a mall yesterday, a beggar called my attention to ask for some alms.      “Sorry, I don’t have cash with me. What I have is a debit card,” I said smugly.      “No problem,” he said. “I accept debit cards, Visa or Mastercard.” ...

Earphones and a Phone Unknown

Image
While inside a mall this morning, I went inside a tech store to try to buy earphones for my phone. I wanted a wired one because they were less expensive than the wireless ones with the same sound quality, according to experts. I walked to the counter and inquired with a salesperson:      ME: “Do you have one that’s type C?”      SALEPERSON: “Yes, sir.”      He put several boxes of earphones on the counter.      ME: “Are those compatible with my phone?”      SALESPERSON: “May I see your phone, sir?”      I put my phone on the counter.      SALESPERSON: “iPhone, sir?”      ME: “No, OnePlus 15.”      SALESPERSON: “What’s that?”      ME (grinning): “A phone.”      He looked at the type C port on my smartphone.      SALESPERSON: “Yes, sir, these would all be compatible wi...

Hello, Little Girl

Image
When you’re passing on your way, I say Mmm, hello little girl, When I see you passing by, I cry Mmm, hello little girl, When I try to catch your eye, I cry Mmm, hello, little girl…        Last Saturday, while walking our dog, I stumbled upon a lost puppy (see photo above) just a few meters away from our house. I observed it for a few minutes, no one else was around except for the motorcycles and cars that were dangerously speeding in front of me, my dog, and the cute puppy. And the puppy was recklessly trying to cross the street. I assumed that it had been abandoned by its owner, so I took it home, and it turned out to be a girl. It’s been a long time since I took a girl home and introduced it to my family. Lol.      If we’d be left without any options, we were ready to take care of it. The only problem was that our dog was a libidinous male who was always ready to pounce on every bitch he’d see. As we were still planning on what to do ...

Criminal History

Image
Rex Heuermann, the serial killer who strangled eight women to death (there’s a documentary on Netflix about him entitled Gone Girls: The Long Island Killer ) was sentenced today to life imprisonment without parole. When he was arrested, the cops looked for his search history on his computer, and it included queries about his own crimes and on why he was yet to be arrested. He also researched about his victims and their families; about prostitutes; little girls; pornography; torture-related subjects, and ways to avoid detection of your crimes.      All incriminating and helped convict him.      If cops would barge into my door right this moment and look at my browser history for my queries for the last few days, they would find that they included:      Will there be a season 2 of Spider Noir?      single storage bed      who’s gonna win in a fight? Homelander or Superman? Spide...

The NBA Champions and a Trillionaire.

Image
Just as I thought, their Game 4 loss to Knicks was so devastating that the Spurs would have a very difficult time recovering from it. It’s a good thing I am not a Spurs Fans. Lol. But I prefer them than the New York Knicks. I am actually a fan of LA Clippers/Kawhi Leonard.      De’Aaron Fox’s Game 4 blunder was no doubt one of the most grievous mistakes in the history of NBA Finals. But it’s water under the bridge now. The Knicks are the champions now. If only Donald Trump continued attending the games…      And Jalen Brunson was no doubt one of the best one-on-one players. Only six foot one, he’s almost unstoppable in isolation plays, though I think Kawhi could limit him, if not entirely shut him down.      Meanwhile, Earth finally has a trillionaire—Elon Musk. I agree with many people saying that being a billionaire should be outlawed. You shouldn’t be a billionaire when millions of people live way below pov...

A Devastating Loss and Monumental Ticket Prices

Image
San Antonio Spurs suffered a devastating loss in Game 4 of their championship series against New York Knicks this morning (Manila time). They led by as much as 29 points (in THIRD quarter), only to lose by one point in the final seconds. With the Spurs leading by one point in the final fifteen seconds and the Knicks with the ball, Spurs guard De’Aaron Fox was able to make a steal, but instead of holding on to the ball and just dribbling out the clock or waiting for a foul, he tried to score and was blocked, giving the opponent the opportunity to score the game-winning basket.      Monumental blunder, yes.      Another reason the Knick was able to win was because the curse was already lifted: Donald Trump didn’t attend game 4. Lol.      Speaking of Donald Trump, a lot of people apparently are suspecting that he’s gay, nay, bisexual (remember, he’s being accused of raping little girls in the past). Want proof t...

Donald Trump and the Knicks Versus the Spurs

Image
So, I resubscribed to Disney Plus just so I could watch the NBA Finals between New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs live. It turned out that, contrary to what Google had told me, a basic subscription will not do it, and that you have to also subscribe at ESPN, which will be too expensive, so I didn’t bother—and I ended up watching the game again on Facebook. Lol. But you can watch all the replays on Disney Plus. Lol.     New York Knicks won the first two games in Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, and game 3 will be held at Madison Square Garden in New York, their hometown, so the Knicks, clearly, were the hot favorites to win again. The last time the Knicks won a championship was 53 years ago. But then, just as the stars were shining favorably on them, US President Donald Trump, a longtime fan of the team, decided to make a grand entrance into the series and watch game 3 inside the venue, and turn all their stars into black holes. Lol. ...

The Saga of Sharmaine, Melanie, and Vanessa

Image
So, there are these viral funny socmed posts that’s suggesting renaming Orange (the fruit) to “Sharmaine,” avocado to “Melanie,” and the fly to “Vanessa.” On one TikTok post, an orange is complaining about her unimaginative name. “Dahil ba orange ang kulay ko, Orange na rin ang ipapangalan sa `kin, bakit si Mango, dilaw siya pero hindi yellow ang pangalan niya?” she rues.      When asked what name she would like to be given, she answered “Sharmaine.”      On another TikTok post, a fly could be heard also grumbling about her name. “Dahil ba may pakpak ako, Fly na agad ang pangalan ko?’ she laments. She prefers that people call her “Vanessa.”      Meanwhile, an avocado is also whining because a lot of people are assuming that she’s an abogado because of her name, thus her desire to be renamed. She wants to be rechristened “Melanie.”      The problem here is, I don’t know if fruits have sexes, b...

A Band With Horns

Image
As time goes on, I realize Just what you mean to me, And now, now that you're near Promise your love that I've waited to share And dreams of our moments together Color my world with hopes of loving you.      Just days after I started listening to Chicago’s music again, posts mentioning the band started appearing on my Facebook News Feed, about the band, probably coincidence or, maybe, p roof that social media, like Big Brother, is really watching every move you make and listening to everything you say. Terry Kath, the band’s guitarist and one of their vocalists, tragically died when he was just 32 years old--he accidentally shot himself in the head while playing with his gun.     Self-described as a rock and roll band with horns, most of their songs are upbeat, catchy, and feel-good.      One of those posts is asking for the three greatest songs of Chicago. I can’t tell their three greatest songs since I haven’t listened to a...

OnePlusOne

Image
My old phone, OnePlus Nord N10, I think, is already five years old. I don’t know how old is that in human years, but I believe it’s quite old in smartphone years. It really isn’t problematic, never once it went haywire, hasn’t really annoyed me, just that it charges slower now, battery quick to fade and has become a bit outdated that it can’t download some new apps—so I thought of buying a replacement, which would also serve as a gift to myself (May is my birthday month). Come to think of it, I don’t remember ever buying a birthday gift for myself. Okay, I probably bought some new socks for me in the past.     And buying a replacement for my old phone I did. And since I was quite satisfied with the performance of my old phone, I decided to buy the same brand, OnePlus 15. Compared to my mid-range old phone, OnePlus 15 is a little high-end and pricier (it's a flagship phone but less expensive than other flagship phones), so it has much better specs a...

The Good, Mischievous Boy

Image
So, yesterday was our dog’s birthday, and we all forgot it. Boo!       It’s not that we’re going to throw a huge party for him. Last year, we just bought him a cake, which he didn’t eat, with a candle he didn’t blow. He’s a beagle, so he’s inherently stubborn, independent and had a mind of his own. Beagle owners have been one in saying that it’s hard to train beagles, the reason you rarely see beagles doing those cute, saccharine tricks on social media reels. They say that beagles prioritize their nose and following scents over obeying commands. Their extremely strong sense of smell is the reason they are easily distracted during training sessions.      F*ck off!  is what our beagle seems to say whenever we try to teach him a trick.       Try walking them, and you’d spend hours traversing a few meters because they’d stop and smell and investigate everything in their path. And it would be disastr...

Posthumous

Image
Time has told me, You’re a rare, rare find, A troubled cure, For a troubled mind…       Just saw an article about Nick Drake on Facebook this morning. Nick Drake was a folk singer-songwriter who made and released three albums when he was still in his early twenties during the ‘70s. All three albums reached miniscule audience and failed miserably, which depressed him furthermore and pushed him more toward drugs and insanity. Nick Drake had always been described as depressive and terribly shy who was always reluctant to perform in front of an audience, he was reportedly so shy that he refused to promote his songs.     I discovered him years ago when I stumbled upon a video of “Pink Moon” (arguably his most famous song) online. Born in 1948, he died in 1974 of antidepressant overdose. Too young.     Ironically, only years after his death that many people realized how brilliant (and gorgeously sad) his songs were, and he then started b...

Nice Villains

“Your problem is you spent your life thinking there are rules. There aren’t.”                                                                                                                         --- Lorne Malvo                 I’ve just watched the first season (hopefully there’d be more seasons) of brand-new TV show Detective Hole and se...

Judas

Image
Today is Holy Wednesday, the day Judas betrayed Jesus, and here’s an experiment you can do that’s appropriate during this week, go to some popular public Facebook accounts, especially the political ones, where there's always heated arguments. And when you see someone swearing and commenting obscenely, rudely, harshly, and wickedly against the ones that they are having an argument with, or wishing them and their family the most cruel and tragic deaths, take a peek at these vulgar people accounts, the ones doing the cursing and the threats, and a lot of times, oddly, you’d see Bible verses there preaching about loving your neighbors or being kind and forgiving, or quotes about how they fear and love God.      Sometimes, you’d even see an image of Jesus on their cover photo.      So, what does the Bible say about these people? Titus 1:16 “They profess to know God, but they deny Him by the way they live. They are detestable, disob...

The White Whale

Image
She’d rise from the sea White as the sun, first creating a giant splash Before swimming for a few minutes, or an hour It would then dive deep into the sea again And disappear for hours, or days But he’d stay on shore, waiting to catch a glimpse of her majestic self again And when she didn’t show up for weeks He knew that she now rose in a different part of the ocean…

Souvenirs from Japan

Image
Two siblings of mine are currently in Japan vacationing. I wanted to come but who would take care of the house? And the dog? The house can be locked. But the dog? So, I stayed home. Travel is nice, but taking care of the dog is nicer. Anyway, maybe, our dog and I could travel together sometime very soon, probably to a country in Middle East. Lol.      Anyway, they asked what souvenirs I wanted.      I thought for a moment, and then said, “A laptop.”      “Nope,” they rejected quickly.      “A phone?”      “Nope.”      “A tablet?”      “Nope.”      “A ref magnet?”      “Yes. Anything else?”      “A watch?”      “Nope.”      “A keychain?”      “Yes. Anything else?”      “A geisha?”      “Nope.”     ...
